Schools

We are currently working in 3 primary farm schools; the schools vary from 24 learners to 125 learners, from 2 teachers to 6 teachers at a school. The schools are approximately in a 100km radius.

Once a week we visit each school for an hour and a half, during that time we do a bible lesson, songs and a memory verse. We are thankful that the teachers allow us to have that time with the learners.

Each quarter we organize a sport event for them, athletics, netball, soccer ect. We have an event with the farm schools, so that we can select a team from them, then we take that team to participate against another school. At these events we organize the transport of the learners and the meals for twice on that day.

Each year we take all the grade 3’s on a trip to the zoo in Pretoria. On this day they leave early in the morning, halfway they have breakfast and on their arrival they get a sweets packet. They spent the whole morning in the zoo till lunch time; they have a nice lunch there and then are headed back. Halfway it’s time for some ice cream and then half the children are so spent they just sleep the rest of the way home.

Every quarter we have a camp for the grade 7’s of the schools. We saw that when they go to secondary school the adjustment is very hard for them. That is why we started with the camps. At the first camp they don’t understand English; they don’t want to participate in the games and they don’t look you in the eyes. With the camps after that we can really see them change and that is really amazing.

We also donate maize meal each month, the children eat lunch at school every day and the government are suppose to provide food for them, but only give them about enough food for a week or two.

Farm School Happy faces. We enjoy the work we do in the rural country side of Limpopo
In the classroom, always a challenge with the materials meagerly provided, and the lack of facilities, e.g. electricity, heat... Farm School
